BioChem™️ 100% Alpha Tocopherol

Alpha tocopherol is the pure, biologically active form of Vitamin E and the most potent form for human use.
It is a fat-soluble antioxidant that protects cell membranes from oxidative damage.
In skincare, it’s used in 100% pure oil form or as part of antioxidant blends to protect skin and improve moisture retention.

Benefits

  1. Powerful Antioxidant

    • Neutralizes free radicals caused by UV light and pollution.

  2. Moisturizing

    • Strengthens the skin’s lipid barrier to lock in hydration.

  3. Skin Repair Support

    • Aids in wound healing and reduces skin roughness.

  4. Photoprotection

    • Helps reduce UV-induced oxidative damage (works best with Vitamin C and ferulic acid).

  5. Scar & Stretch Mark Care

    • Often used in oils aimed at improving scar texture and elasticity.

Uses

  • Common concentration in blends: 0.5–5%

  • Pure form: 100% alpha tocopherol oil is typically diluted before use because of its richness and potential to clog pores.

  • Application:

    • Best in PM routines due to its heavy, occlusive texture.

    • Often paired with Vitamin C in AM serums for synergistic antioxidant protection.

  • Pairs well with:

    • Vitamin C, ferulic acid, ceramides, plant oils.

  • Avoid combining:

    • Very rich occlusive formulas in oily/acne-prone skin (may cause congestion).

FDA Cautions & Safety

  • FDA Status:

    • Alpha tocopherol is Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) for topical and oral use.

    • Cosmetic formulations can freely include Vitamin E without FDA pre-approval, unless therapeutic claims are made.

  • Potential Side Effects:

    • Rare skin irritation, allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

    • May cause breakouts in acne-prone skin if used in heavy concentrations.

  • Cautions:

    • Store away from light and air—alpha tocopherol oxidizes over time.

    • Pure oil form can stain fabrics.
