BioRaw™️ Peanut Powder

Peanut Powder

Source & Origin

  • Source: Peanut powder is made from roasted peanuts that are pressed to remove most of their oil and then ground into a fine powder.

  • Origin: Peanuts are believed to have originated in South America (mainly Peru and Brazil), and today major producers include the U.S., China, India, and parts of Africa.

  • Peanut powder is a more recent development aimed at providing a lower-fat, higher-protein alternative to traditional peanut butter.

Benefits

  1. High in Protein:

    • Contains around 6–8g of protein per 2-tablespoon serving.

    • Supports muscle building and repair.

  2. Low in Fat:

    • Up to 85% less fat than regular peanut butter due to oil removal.

  3. Versatile:

    • Can be added to smoothies, baking recipes, sauces, or reconstituted with water as a spread.

  4. Rich in Nutrients:

    • Contains niacin, magnesium, phosphorus, and antioxidants (resveratrol, for example).

  5. Weight Management:

    • Lower calorie count makes it a preferred option for those tracking caloric intake.

  6. Long Shelf Life:

    • Less oil means reduced rancidity and longer storage potential.

Recommended Use

  • Smoothies: 1–2 tablespoons for added flavor and protein.

  • Baking: Substitute part of the flour for peanut powder in muffins, pancakes, etc.

  • Cooking: Add to sauces or dressings for a nutty flavor.

  • Rehydration: Mix with water (typically 2:1 ratio powder to water) to make a spreadable peanut butter.

Note: Always check for added sugar or salt in flavored versions.

FDA Caution & Safety

  • Allergen Warning:

    • Peanut powder still contains peanut proteins and is not safe for individuals with peanut allergies.

    • FDA requires that products containing peanut powder clearly label peanut as an allergen under the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA).

  • Contaminants:

    • Like all peanut products, there's potential for aflatoxin contamination (a natural toxin from mold), so reputable sourcing and quality testing are important.

  • Labeling Claims:

    • Any health claims made must comply with FDA nutritional labeling laws, particularly if the product makes “low-fat” or “high-protein” claims.

  • Supplements:

    • If marketed as a dietary supplement, peanut powder must comply with FDA regulations under DSHEA(Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994).
